In learning how to use the LabLynx, Inc. HealthCloud LIS, it is useful to understand how it is designed to support your workflow on a daily basis by looking at the processes overall and how they fit together.
Once Setup & Training is completed, you are in the business of daily operations. The smooth functioning of those operations is largely a function of having completed the Setup & Training effectively. The higher the level of quality of that setup, the better the daily functioning of the lab and its LIS. Patients need to be present in the Patient Management section, as well as all physicians. More may always be added at any time, but setup should include those known at the time. Note that this may be accomplished through upload of a spreadsheet (contact LabLynx, Inc. to arrange, or submit a ticket to the Help Desk). The second critical element that must be in place is the assays you use. These are set up in Test Management and include the use of correct Parameters (analytes), ranges and other settings. Obviously users must also be set up to be able to access the system, according to the appropriate access level profiles. See Setup & Training to view the list of items performed during setup/training.
Once set up correctly, the operation of your HealthCloud LIS is simple and intuitive.
To begin with, the HealthCloud LIS Menu offers a huge clue to how the LIS is used. From top to bottom, it more or less represents the lab workflow, along with a couple of extra functional items. This will vary according to your lab's specific functions and processes. But here is a general standard LIS menu:
The lab's activities start with an order, or a submission of a request for assays. This may be entered by office staff, a phlebotomist, medical assistant, physicians themselves or anyone you designate. The submitter need only have the correct access profile to do so (see User Management).
For guidance on this function, see Order Management.
All specimens that have been received for any orders are batched for testing and assigned to an instrument if applicable, and the assay performed. Whether it's blood or urine analysis, microscopy, a test kit or anything else, any specimens receiving like assays are grouped together and the analyses performed. Unique IDs ensure they retain their link to the order, patient, physician, etc. The system also helps you track specimens that are sent out to reference labs.
For more information, see Specimen Batching.
Data EntryLIS. And when all the results are in for an order, that order report is ready to be issued. Or if you have elected to have LabLynx, Inc. integrate your instrument(s), then the results are populated in the LIS as soon as the instrument is done.
Your HealthCloud LIS supports any alphanumeric result values, including <, >, ND, pos/neg etc. And any values that are outside of the prescribed are highlighted. Users can choose to approve or cancel that run, or create a new run.
See Data Entry in the manual for more details.
The final step of the daily lab processes is viewing and issuing the Order Report. All orders for which all specimens are complete are listed on the Report Review/Approval screen. Simply click on the checkbox of the one you want, review it, and issue (save, email, print, fax). Once issued, reports are automatically archived, available to be retrieved at any time.
See Report Review/Approval for more details.
See Report Examples for examples.
There are other features in your HealthCloud LIS, like the Pending List so you can always see just how much work there is to be done at any given time, Document Upload & Management, Lab Inventory, Reports and Labels and Instrument Calibration and Maintenance Tracking. Just go to the appropriate section of this manual for step-by-step instructions on just how to use those features.
