Q: How long have you been in business?
A: Having created the world's first web browser-based LIMS in 1997 (introduced at Pittcon that year), LabLynx was incorporated as a company in 2000. So we've been in business for nearly two decades now!
Q: How do you ensure quality?
A: At LabLynx, quality control is a priority that applies to all aspects of our business. It is fundamental to development of functions and features in our products. But even more, it characterizes the foundation of all of our plans and actions, especially where they interact with and affect our customers. The underlying principle at LabLynx, Inc. is that the needs and best interests of the laboratory, informatics, medical and scientific community we serve take first priority. This isn’t out of some disguised intent to present a noble and altruistic façade so the public are snowed. It is out of recognition that by understanding and serving the needs of the customer and making those the company’s priority, the company will do more business. To put the interests of customers first IS to put those of the company first. The company who does not understand this ultimately fails. To this end, LabLynx has in place a Quality Management System (QMS), consisting of a quality statement, manual with SOPs, systems and applications and managerial oversight.

Q: Are your solutions complete or do we have to buy modules and put them together?

Q: Is it better to Cloud-Host or self-host?
A: Times have changed. And recently it seems there's been a tipping point. Back in the day, every business had to have its own IT department. Even individuals had to have plenty of hard drive space to download applications, store data and in some cases run a database. It it reminiscent of how when automobiles first came out, for many years everyone who owned one had to be a mechanic and have tools. Well today that's no longer the case. The same goes for computing. People use smart phones to access everything online, and at most use small-footprint apps to help them do that. But the main work is done out there on the Internet - yes, in the "cloud". The cloud is nothing more than server infrastructures that are accessed via the Internet. For many, and increasingly so, it is tremendously appealing to have access to super-reliable, powerful computing 24/7/365 at a cost that is typically significantly less than that associated with buying their own hardware, operating systems, firewalls, storage area networks, etc. and paying for the staff to maintain them, plus upgrading regularly, etc. Businesses these days are more comfortable leaving that to dedicated cloud providers and concentrating instead on their core business. This is especially true since providers like banks and like LabLynx can guarantee 99.9% uptime and fully regulatory-compliant, secure (including HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, 21 CFR part 11 and more) data protection and operations.
Now, there are always exceptions that prove the rule. Many larger labs/hospitals/companies already have their own IT department and are quite capable of hosting a suite of applications and database on their existing infrastructure. In fact, many government or corporate policies mandate only onsite hosting. In those cases, the Enterprise Edition with self-hosting option is your only choice.
Q: Can we get a copy of our data?
A: Yes. Any time. Your data are your own. In fact, with any of the open source components of your solution you get the applications themselves as well! And if LabLynx should ever cease doing business (don't count on it - we've been around for nearly two decades and we're not planning on going anywhere now!), then you get all of your stuff - your contract guarantees it.
Q: Laboratory informatics management systems can be pretty complex. What's your support like?
A: Support resources are often less than adequate for many software products, so that no matter how good they are, it can be difficult to make them perform the way you need them to. LabLynx support resources, conversely, are comprehensive and of a high standard. LabLynx, Inc. believes in equipping our customers with all of the tools required to make them as successful as possible, and even more so, not less so, when the app is affordably priced, and designed for simple implementation and ease of use. When coupled with the LabLynx LIMS/LIS manual with simple, step-by-step directions on overall use as well as each individual function—complete with the links to the videos—these tutorials work together with the help desk and other resources to give you the very best support experience possible.

How much does a LIMS/LIS cost?
A: LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) or an LIS (Laboratory Information System) is a function of a collection of factors, all of which must be included when budgeting. It is a packaged solution. Your solution will be a combination of apps and features within those apps, and the edition you select will be based on the size of your lab, the number of users and how scalable you need to be regarding them, and your budget - both now and in the coming years - plus business considerations like cloud-hosting vs self-hosting, concurrent user subscription/license vs named users, etc. Additionally - and importantly - you always need to factor in the hourly services involved for implementation, including:
