About Us
LabLynx is a privately-owned, debt-free company founded by CEO John Jones, a native of the Pensacola, Florida area. With degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, his attention turned to data management in the laboratory as far back as 1992, developing his own systems to increase accuracy and efficiency. This led to the eventual introduction of the ELab LIMS as the world’s first true web browser-based lab data management system, at the Pittcon convention in 1997. LabLynx was then formed in 2000 and has now been serving labs across every industry for over two and a half decades. And as we have done so, we have learned from each, and grown in our LIMS’s capabilities. Today we offer far more than the world’s first, best and most comprehensive cloud-based LIMS (also available for self-hosting), but also a range of other applications, including client-facing web portal, ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook), integration and automation products and more! You can learn all about each of them in this handy Guide.
But LabLynx is more than simply a software company. We are active advocates for the entire laboratory industry, establishing the Laboratory Informatics Institute in 2006 to help set standards, enable the free flow of information, provide training courses and more. These efforts are continued today through our free, open LiMSforum.com community, with over 8 million members around the world, and aided by the most comprehensive laboratory and LIMS reference materials resource in the world, LIMSwiki.org.

What types of laboratories do we serve?
Every kind! At a core level, every lab does essentially the same thing: they receive samples of some kind, perform tests and generate results of those tests that tell something important about the samples. Of course there are almost infinite variations on the details, like what kinds of samples are involved, what kinds of tests are performed and why, what form results take and how they are presented/reported…the whole set of processes can vary greatly, even between labs in the same industry. And that’s where our software shines: it is very user-configurable - as well as being extensible/customizable by development. And its unparalleled scalability also makes it a great choice for every size lab, from start-up to global, multi-site operations.
So whatever your lab does and however small or large it is – it’s you we serve! Learn more in the Laboratories & Industries Served section of this Guide.
What types of lab software does LabLynx provide?
LabLynx is your one-stop shop for all of your lab’s data management needs, offering a full range of products and services. For a complete list, and detailed descriptions, see The LabLynx Platform and Applications and LabLynx Product Suites chapters in this Guide.
LabLynx Quality & Compliance Standards
For many labs, a main concern is compliance with regulations or standards, including ISO 17025/9001, 21 CFR part 11, 40 CFR 3 (CROMERR), GxP, EPA and FDA, HIPAA and any of a range of others. In governmental labs which involve sensitive data, environmental or food labs which are subject to governmental scrutiny, or manufacturing QC labs incorporating specs, ISOs and the like, it's important that all known regulatory compliance standards are supported by your LIMS solution, including:
· 21 CFR Part 11 and 40 CFR 3: A government regulated lab’s LIMS should meet FDA and EPA requirements in that electronic signatures and documents are stored in the system database and only accessible by authorized personnel based on login. These data are securely and accurately transmitted to appropriate parties in whatever ways are mandated, including the interfacing to systems like STORET, WARN, eLEXNET and others for reporting and data sharing with state and federal departments and agencies.
· Section 508: In the case of a federal agency needing to meet this regulation, our LIMS suites offer the best disabled accessibility available since they are browser based and thus configurable to the Microsoft Windows or MacOS accessibility options native to the operating system.
· ISO/IEC 17025: Compliance with this laboratory management standard will also fulfill the more generic ISO 9001. The items for accreditation are both managerial and technical, and are aimed at traceability, standardization and consistency. The modern ELabLIMS and the rest of our data management apps support these elements in all of the applicable areas, applying methodologies evenly across different procedures and tracking all data necessary to support the lab in meeting this standard.
· NELAC/NELAP (TNI): Limit alerts, storing of SOPs and standards, monitoring of training and qualifications, instrument calibration and maintenance...these are some of the many ways your LabLynx solution will help you to meet these requirements comfortably.
· GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice): GMP refers to a set of regulations enforced by authorities such as the FDA (U.S.), EMA (Europe), and WHO to ensure that drugs, medical devices, and food products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. Key aspects include:
-
-
-
·Quality Management: Ensures all manufacturing processes meet predefined quality criteria.·Documentation & Record Keeping: Tracks all procedures, materials, and personnel for traceability.·Personnel & Training: Ensures workers are trained and qualified.·Facility & Equipment: Requires clean, controlled environments and properly maintained equipment.·Process Validation & Monitoring: Ensures repeatability and reliability of manufacturing processes.·Product Testing & Quality Control: Requires rigorous testing before distribution.
-
-
· GCMP (Good Clinical Manufacturing Practice): GCMP is a subset of GMP, focused specifically on investigational medicinal products (IMPs) used in clinical trials. It ensures that drugs for research and development are manufactured under controlled conditions to maintain safety and efficacy. It follows GMP principles but emphasizes:
-
-
-
····
-
-
Both GMP and GCMP ensure high-quality pharmaceutical production but differ in their scope—GMP covers commercial manufacturing, while GCMP applies to clinical trial products. LabLynx systems cover both, with clients ranging from modest local/regional labs to global, high-profile operations.
The biggest thing to remember is that a LIMS helps you to eliminate errors in transcription (the more times you have to write something down, the more chances for error), control access to data and reports, and especially the tracking of any modifications to those data, and alert you when there are potential non-compliance issues. Those issues may be in the form of out-of-limits results, analyst qualification expiry, holding time exceedance and countless other metrics. Our LabLynx data management solutions are designed to support these and all other known applicable standards and regulations.
What makes LabLynx unique compared to other lab software companies?
There are a number of things that set us apart from the rest of the pack. Being independently-owned, we can - and do - operate quickly, efficiently and effectively, without the burden of crippling institutional, bureaucratic red tape. We can be instantly responsive to you and your lab’s needs. We are the “Cinderella” lab data management company: small enough to be personalized and responsive, but large enough to be able to deliver whatever is needed, regardless of the size of your business.
And we take authenticity, transparency and integrity very seriously. From your very first contact with our small, attentive and unified sales team, throughout your system implementation, Go-Live and ongoing operation, you will always be talking to real people – lab people – who know you and your lab and understand exactly what you do. You can call or text our cell phones. There are no call centers, IVR or robo-calls!
Here are some more ways that we stand out from the crowd. Some others may offer some of these, but nobody offers it all:
